What Are Winsafe Swing Stages?

Definition: Winsafe swing stages are suspended scaffold systems built from Winsafe modular platforms and rigging, offered in North America through Power Climber. The centerpiece is the SuperMod modular suspended platform, which combines aluminum trusses with steel U-frames and steel stirrups. Hoists mounted to the stirrups climb wire ropes hung from roof rigging, raising and lowering the platform along buildings, bridges, boilers, and other structures.

What sets Winsafe apart is its emphasis on strength and rigidity. Where many modular platforms are all-aluminum, the SuperMod uses steel U-frames and stirrups — and because steel has about one-third the flex of aluminum, the result is a stiffer, better-riding platform. Its aluminum trusses weigh about the same as comparable European trusses, but use a shorter toe board and put the extra material into a bottom chord roughly twice as thick as the competition.

The SuperMod is designed for use both as a conventional swing stage and as a large-area platform. The same components build straight stages, corner platforms, and even circular platforms using three walk-through stirrups and eight 45-degree corner sections. Winsafe also offers the BoilerMod for boiler interiors, Super Deck large-area platforms for the undersides of bridges and domes, and a complete line of modular outrigger beams and rigging. Through Scaffold Exchange, you can find vendors across the U.S. who carry Winsafe swing stage systems and compare their inventory, rental rates, and availability in your area.

Key Components of a Winsafe Swing Stage System

A Winsafe swing stage combines SuperMod platform components and Winsafe rigging with compatible hoists and wire rope to create a complete suspended scaffold system.

Platform

SuperMod Trusses

Aluminum truss sections with a heavy bottom chord that form the platform sides, connected end-to-end to build the required length with integrated guardrails and toe boards.

Structure

Steel U-Frames

Steel U-frames tie the trusses together and support the deck, giving the platform its rigidity. Steel's lower flex delivers a stiffer, smoother ride than all-aluminum frames.

Connection

Steel Stirrups

End, walk-through, C, and adjustable incline stirrups mount the hoists to the platform, built from steel to handle demanding jobsite conditions.

Configuration

Corners, BoilerMod & Super Deck

Corner sections, hinge sections, BoilerMod components, and Super Deck hardware turn the same system into corner, circular, boiler, and large-area platforms.

Rigging

Modular Outrigger Beams

Lightweight aluminum outrigger beams that pin together on site, with beam stands, rolling outrigger trolleys, and a Cable Truss System for extended reach.

Common Applications & Job Site Uses

Winsafe swing stages are used on demanding commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects where platform strength and configuration flexibility matter. They are common on facades, bridges, and industrial structures throughout the United States and Canada.

High-rise facade construction, restoration, and repair

Curtain wall, glazing, and masonry work

Bridge underside construction and maintenance using Super Decks

Domes, arches, and large overhead surfaces

Boiler interiors using BoilerMod platforms

Circular structures such as tanks, silos, and towers

Wrap-around corner work on angled facades

Heavy-duty jobs needing a rigid, smooth-riding platform

How Winsafe Compares to Other Motorized Scaffolding Systems

Winsafe is one of several major modular swing stage platforms. Here is how it compares to other motorized access options and which projects each suits best.

OSHA Compliance & Safety Standards

Winsafe swing stages used on U.S. job sites must comply with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1926.451, which sets general requirements for all scaffolds including suspension scaffolds, along with the two-point and multi-point adjustable suspension scaffold requirements in 29 CFR 1926.452. Workers on a two-point suspension scaffold must be protected by both a guardrail system and a personal fall arrest system. Install and use Winsafe platforms only in the arrangements and configurations specified in the manufacturer's operating instructions.

  • Only manufacturer-approved platform arrangements and configurations
  • Personal fall arrest tied to an independent lifeline for each worker
  • Guardrails and toe boards installed along the full platform
  • Outrigger counterweights and tiebacks checked at the start of each day
  • Never roll an outrigger while the platform is suspended
  • Scaffold inspected by a competent person before each work shift

Frequently Asked Questions

A Winsafe swing stage is a suspended scaffold built from Winsafe modular platform components — most commonly the SuperMod — and Winsafe rigging. Hoists mounted to steel stirrups climb wire ropes hung from roof rigging, raising and lowering the platform along a building or structure.
The SuperMod uses steel U-frames and steel stirrups rather than an all-aluminum frame. Steel has about one-third the flex of aluminum, producing a more rigid, smoother-riding platform. Its aluminum trusses also put extra material into a bottom chord roughly twice as thick as competing designs.
Yes. The SuperMod is designed to work both as a conventional swing stage and as a large-area platform. Winsafe Super Decks use SuperMod components to build large suspended platforms — ranging from about 9 by 9 feet up to 30 by 28 feet — for the undersides of bridges, domes, and arches.
Use the Scaffold Exchange vendor map to search by your location and filter by equipment type. You can see which local suspended scaffolding companies carry Winsafe platforms and rigging, compare their inventory and pricing, and contact them directly through the platform.
Yes. When assembled in manufacturer-approved configurations, rigged correctly, and used with guardrails and personal fall arrest systems on independent lifelines, Winsafe swing stages meet OSHA 29 CFR 1926.451 and 1926.452 requirements. Visit the OSHA website for full interpretations and rulings on these standards.
Yes. Using three walk-through stirrups and eight 45-degree corner sections, a SuperMod platform can be assembled into a circular configuration — useful for tanks, silos, towers, and round building features. Circular and multi-point configurations should follow the manufacturer's engineered arrangements.
