About Hydek
Overview: Hydek is a brand of hydraulic mast climbing work platforms originally designed and manufactured by an Atlanta, Georgia company and distributed internationally. Hydek platforms use gas-powered hydraulic drive systems to climb a tied mast, giving masonry crews a high-capacity work deck that moves up with the wall. In 2017, Klimer Platforms acquired the manufacturing rights to the Hydek line and announced a redesigned next generation focused on masonry.
Hydek built its reputation on heavy-duty hydraulic mast climbers for masonry contractors, with models such as the gas-powered Mark II-724. Because the platform climbs with the work, masons can stay at the most productive height while pallets of brick or block and tubs of mortar ride on the same deck. Contractors reported major productivity gains compared with conventional scaffolding, with some projects finishing weeks ahead of schedule.
After acquiring the manufacturing rights, Klimer Platforms, a mast climber manufacturer and rental company with branches in the U.S. and Canada, set out to redesign Hydek using feedback from existing users, aiming for a dedicated masonry machine that travels smoothly and is easy to operate. Many Hydek platforms remain in contractor and rental fleets today. Through Scaffold Exchange, you can find Hydek mast climbers and the providers who sell, rent, and service them.

OSHA Compliance & Safety Standards
OSHA does not have a standard written specifically for mast climbing work platforms, so on U.S. construction sites they are generally held to OSHA's scaffold requirements in 29 CFR 1926.451, along with the manufacturer's instructions. The consensus standard ANSI/SAIA A92.9 covers mast climber design, installation, use, and training in more detail. Gas-powered units also require attention to fuel handling and exhaust, especially in enclosed areas.
- Installed per the manufacturer's instructions and engineering
- Mast ties and anchors installed at the specified spacing
- Rated load posted and never exceeded
- Guardrails on all open sides of the platform
- Fuel handled safely and exhaust kept away from enclosed areas
- Inspected by a competent person before each shift
